1. Start a “Moving File"

Your are going to gather a lot of paperwork during your move. Get organized from the start and you will be able to find everything you need when you need it. Get an expandable file case to keep all your moving related paperwork.

Any receipts for moving expenses should be kept on file. Many moving expenses are tax deductible, contact the CRA and obtain form T1-M Moving Expenses .

2. Get quotes from movers

If you followed the tips in Finding the right movers , you now have a short list of possible Vancouver Movers. It's a good idea to get at least three quotes.

Talk to the movers while they inventory your home for the quote. They are professional movers and can offer a vast amount of helpful advice on organizing your move and packing your belongings.

3. Create a budget for your Vancouver Move

Determine how much money you can spend on your move. Gather up a list of the expenses you will incur. Remember expenses such as “We're Moving” cards, dining out, transcript fees, as well as the obvious movers, packing supplies, etc. This process will help you determine when you can save by doing work yourself, or finding packing supplies instead of buying them.

4. Create a plan

5. Research your new home and surroundings

Get to know your new community. Request information on schools, community centers and programs, Chamber of Commerce, parks, etc. Get your children involved so they can get excitted about their new neighbourhood.
