Week 6
Week 6
1. Start collecting packing supplies

You created a house plan in week 8 and eliminated the clutter in week 7 . Now you have a good idea of what needs to be packed.
Start collecting packing boxes. Be sure they have a strong bottom and are clean on the inside. Your grocery store or local merchants are a good place to look. Many stores cut their boxes to open them. You may need to ask the store manager to arrange for the store to save them for you. Most locations do not have extra space for empty boxes, so they will ask you to pick them up promptly at a designated time and place. Be punctual or they will likely throw away the boxes.
You will need plenty of stuffing material such as newspaper, clean newsprint, tissue paper, bubble wrap, packing peanuts, packing tape, labels, markers, pens, notebook.
All your packing supplies are available through Urban Rush Movers or another local moving center.
Make a list of valuable and fragile items and decide how they will be transported.
2. Arrange to collect any security deposits you have
It always takes time to get security deposits back. Be sureto start the process earlier to avoid last minute disappointments. You need to give plenty of advance notice along with providing date of move and new address information.
3. Make a list of businesses and friends you need to notify about your move
Keep the list in your moving file so you can keep adding to it. As people are notified, cross them off the list.
- Notify your utility companies and credit cards companies of your new address by filling out their change of address cards. Many will allow you to change your address on-line or by phone.
- Send “We've Moved” cards to friends and family to notify them of your date of move and new address.
- Change of address cards from the post office are a way for junk mailers to track you down. If you want to decrease the amount of junk mail you receive, do not fill these forms out.
4. Arrange for the newspaper delivery to start when you move
You will need to notify your current paper and possible the newspaper that delivers to your new address.
5. Organize plants that will be moved
Not all plants can be easily moved, especially if you are moving to a new city or province. Plan to give these to family, friends, or donate them to charities.
6. Start using frozen foods
Frozen foods should not be transported to your new home. It is best to start planning meals around what is in your freezer. You will want to have emptied the content at least a few days before the move so that you hace time to clean it out. It is best to leave the freezer unplugged for a few days before the move so it has the chance to dry out.
Put all lists and documents in your Moving File.
