Week 2
1. Medical details
When moving to a new city or province, you will need to find new health care professionals. Contact your doctor, dentist and vetrinarian them for referrals in your new location. If they don't know anyone, they can tell you the best way to find a professional for your family's needs. You will also have to make arrangements with them to have the necessary medical records transfered.
2. The last meals
Time to plan meals for last 2 weeks. Use use any frozen or perishable food as soon as possible. You will probably want to work out dining out for the last day or two.
Keep in mind you want to clean your major appliances a few days before the move. You will also want to pack as many small appliances as possible. Work out which ones you need (toaster, coffee machine, etc.) and pack the rest.
Its also a good idea to have beverages available on moving day. Moving is hard work, you want to keep your workers refreshed.
3. Packing considerations
You may need to collect items from your safety deposit box and organize with your valuables for transport. Remember that you should transport all items of value, do not pack for loading in the moving truck.
Determine which appliances will not be used and can be packed. Your meal plan will help you narrow that down.
Empty and clean out the attic, basement, closets and any storage areas. You will want to complete packings rooms and clean them out once at a time. Reduce the amount of last minute cleaning by doing it gradually starting now.
4. Important details
It is very important to back up all your computer files. Hard drives are delicate and you want to reduce the chances of loosing all your data accidentally during the move.
Dispose of any hazardous material that cannot be transported. Find out which depots will accept these materials.
Organize a folder of important information on your current residence for the new residents. You will want to leave in on the kitchen counter for the new owners when you leave.
